ENCORE RELEASES II:
This month sees another couple of games re-released from Elites back
catalogue under the Encore label. Namely Thundercats and Buggyboy.
Thundercats:
------------
This game is based on the characters used in the popular childrens toys,
films and cartoons (which are due for a re-run in the UK, hence the re-
release). As such this is a game that is aimed at the younger end of the
market. Gameplay is a little simple and involves moving your Thundermoggy
across the terrain, jumping over obstacles, collecting weapons and
generally beating up the many forms of nasty creatures you encounter. On
reaching the goal you are transported to the next level and do battle
again. Time ticks away and if you're slow you'll find lots of beasties
trying to slaughter your Thunderpuss and it gets a bit hectic. The game
will probably appeal to younger Thunderkids who are fans of the series and
toys etc, I don't think there's too much to hold us veterans for too long.
Graphics and sound are fair, although nothing staggering, it's one of
Elites early titles meaning it's been dropped off the ST but despite that
it offers reasonable fayre for cat-fans. Verdict: 7/10 if you're into
Thundering pussies.. (£9.95)
BuggyBoy:
---------
Arguably STILL Elites best ever release, this is still one of the best
road-race style games, beating much of todays crop of driving games - and
it's two years old. When it was first released it met much critical
aclaim, its a superb conversion of the arcade game of the same name and it
plays excellently. The game involves steering your buggy over 5 courses
collecting bonuses and beating the clock on your way. Graphics are very
good, fluid moving and reasonably fast, sound is ok but could have been a
bit more 'meaty' - especially the music which is a bit dull. Overall the
game is a steal at this price and any new Amiga users should grab this
opportunity to get hold of this game at the new price. (£9.95)
Verdict: 10/10 at this price.. Excellent value - appeals to all ages and
it's money very well spent if you're after shutting the kids up for a week
or two...
